Firing Employees over Facebook Comments
After reading this article, I think that Apple had every right to fire the employee for posting negative comments about the company. They laid out the rules about social media clearly, and the employee chose not to abide by the rules, thinking they would not get caught because it was "private". People need to realize that nothing is private on the internet. If you post something, people can find it. It's so important for companies to maintain a good reputation to the public in order to stay successful. Social Media is an essential way for business' advertisement and is widely viewed by people. Any negative views about a company can spread like wildfire on the internet. As an employee, I think we need to understand this part of business and violating these rules could end with serious consequences. As an employer, I would take social media very seriously and make it known to my employees that there is to be no negative comments about the company and go over the consequences.

The fact that Apple had already made it clear that posting slander about the company would be punished is definitely a large factor in this situation. Even though I don't think it should make a difference whether it is already made clear you should not post negatively about the company. It should come without being warned, if a company is generous enough to hire you and keep you on their payroll you should return the favor with respect.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, nothing over the internet is private anymore, and anything you post, someone can see. and with how fast information is transmitted now, that one comment could be seen worldwide in a matter of minutes.
ReplyDeletethe fact that you can type a name in google and find a lot of information on that one person is sooo creepy!
ReplyDeleteI feel like they had the right to fire the employee as well because they have strict rules against it that the employee probably knew about.
ReplyDeletei totally agree with the respect factor, if they are paying you to do a job, you should not be saying anything negative. it's a bad decision on your part to make your company look bad anyway because YOU are a part of the company. Making it look bad makes you look bad.
ReplyDeleteThere is absolutely no such thing as "private." You can find just about anything on the internet.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completely. I was not sure how everyone would react to this article but its looking like everyone somewhat has the same take on it.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree with you!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, especially since social medias are the big things now companies should make sure they enforce what is and is not allowed.
